This is the first in the “Journeys with Jimanie” series,
Mabry Mill is one of the most photographed places in the United States.
On our first trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway, Jim and I fell in love
with this beautiful spot. We’ve photographed it in many different seasons,
but nothing can compare to the Mill in Spring, when the rhododendrons
are in bloom! The gristmill and sawmill have been restored by park naturalists
in order that visitors might see live exhibits, a real mill and a working
miller to demonstrate the milling process. The grounds of the mill include
other interpretive media all designed to tell about mountain industry.
Mabry Mill has 59 colors and is 240 stitches wide and
158 high. This is the quality and detail you have come to expect from
many years of animal designs and Marty Bell translations from Stephanie
Hedgepath.
Jimanie is the kennel name Stephanie uses for her show kennel of Pembroke
Welsh Corgis. It is a combination of her name and the name of her husband,
Jim. Since this series is going to include many places photographed
on trips they have made together or on trips Stephanie has made for
dog judging assignments, it seemed natural to name it “Journeys with
Jimanie”.
Happy stitching!
